How to Care for a Reusable Cotton Coffee Filter
Posted by CHRISTINA CASCIARO

You’ve just bought your first reusable cotton coffee filter and don’t know how to properly take care of it. Here’s a quick guide on how to care for your reusable cotton coffee filter.
Since you’ll be using this to brew your coffee, you want to be extra careful with how you sanitize and clean the filter.
Before your first use of the coffee filter, boil your coffee filter for 10 minutes to sanitize and shrink the material. You can also add a spoon of baking soda to further enhance your filter. If your coffee filter is ever soiled with a perishable food, boil for at least 10 minutes
Step By Step
- After brewing, dispose of the coffee grounds (in a compost preferably) and thoroughly rinse your coffee filter with water. Mild dish detergent is optional.
- Wring out water and hang to dry in-between use.
- Every 6-8 weeks, boil your coffee filter to remove accumulated coffee oils and sanitize your coffee filter. You may also add baking soda for a deeper clean.
Brewing Tips:
- Before placing your coffee grounds in the filter to brew your coffee, dampen the filter so that the coffee does not have any difficulties going through.
